Remembering Alhaja Agoro (April 14, 1945-May 26, 2009) | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News


Alhaja Halimah-Shadiyah Mosunmola Olashalewa Agoro (nee Shekete) was born on April 14, 1945 in Eko, popularly referred to as Lagos Island and died on May 26, 2009. She had early education at the Salvation Army Primary School, Odunlami in Lagos Island and proceeded to Lagos Anglican Girls’ Grammar School, Surulere for her secondary education. She joined the Lagos State Ministry of Finance on her return and rose through the ranks over the years to become the first female chairman of the Board of Internal Revenue, now known as Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), retiring in 2005. Alhaja Agoro’s devotion to Islam was exemplary, as she was a founding member of the Rahmat Islamiyya Society in Aguda, Surulere. She is survived by three children and would continue to be remembered by all the people whose lives she touched, certainly missed missed by everybody who came across her and never be forgotten by those who value religion, humility, hardwork and family.
